As soneone once said to Ann Herbert about a marriage, "it might make a good soap opera, but it's a lousy porn film." Monday night's reading was more like a C-SPAN broadcast of Congressional speeches: a lot of talking for the cameras, but no one in the audience. It was advertised in the Chicago Reader (how i found TT in the first place) but couple of members had honest to god medical emergencies, Wayne Allen Sallee (who met me for dinner) had a 2 1/2 hour train ride home, Conrad Lorenz brought toilet paper to throw but had to leave before I read, so that left Viki Rollins, Martel Sardina, JJ (the other reader) and me. The gods laugh when we make plans.
The good news: it was very helpful for me personally, as Martell brought a slide projector for my photos of medieval tarots and iconography, and Viki was very enthusiastic about the publishing potential of the "Tarot without Superstition" non-fiction manuscript, and i worked out some plot points in a short story that started with the title "Binky Wasn't Ever Going to Get Up" and evolved into something called "The Incubus' Widow" (why do i keep tripping over titles showing possession?) Viki was embarrassed by the turnout (she and Martell worked like navvies setting up the book display and the projector), so i'd say it was a lousy poetry slam, but a great writer's workshop.

Strange you are into researching Tarot. I've read cards for years now and use a Robin Wood deck. The Crowley deck does not talk to me (creeps me out). I apply the psychology that a person will tell me what they want me to know and from the Wood deck I can explain it in pictures....we answer our questions from within ourselves.(Kind of Jungian huh?)
In South Bend I would have card parties with several friends and would read the cards along with cake and tea. One year I read cards on my birthday to a group of strangers (Tom's co-workers) and really hit the nail on the head for a lot of them.
Sorry there wasn't much of a crowd --glad it had workshop potential. Smile, Dee Ann
